PRIVACY POLICY — AMPLIA
Amplia is a volume booster and audio enhancer for Android. This policy explains, in plain terms, what the app does with your information. It is short because the app does very little with it.
WHO WE ARE
Amplia is developed by Octo8 — https://octo8.app/en/. Contact: support@octo8.app
THE SHORT VERSION
Amplia has no accounts, no login and no advertising. Unless you switch analytics off in Settings, anonymous app-interaction and technical information is sent to Firebase Analytics and Mixpanel. Your audio, media identity, presets and listening-exposure history stay on your phone.
WHAT STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE
The following never leaves your phone. It is stored in the app's private storage and is deleted when you uninstall the app:
- Your boost level, equalizer settings and enhancement toggles
- Presets and per-output profiles you create
- Your safe listening ceiling and your hearing-exposure history
- Your language choice and onboarding state
- Audio files you play in the built-in player. Amplia reads them to play them. It does not upload them, scan them, or record anything about what you listen to.
WHAT LEAVES YOUR DEVICE
Optional analytics. Amplia sends anonymous app-interaction and technical information to Google Firebase Analytics and Mixpanel so Octo8 can understand feature use and improve reliability. This can include app and Android versions, locale, device manufacturer and model, whether you use the free or Pro version, resettable anonymous installation identifiers, approximate region derived from a masked IP address, and actions such as starting an enhancement session, changing gain or EQ, using a preset, viewing Pro, or completing a purchase. Amplia does not send audio, media titles, artists, output-device names, advertising IDs, contact information, or precise location. Mixpanel data is processed in its EU data region. This is on by default and you can switch it off at any time in Settings; switching it off stops future collection and resets local analytics identifiers, but cannot guarantee deletion of already aggregated provider data. See https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy/.
The subscription check. If — and only if — you open the subscription screen, Amplia connects to RevenueCat, Inc., the service that verifies purchases for us. From that moment RevenueCat receives:
- An anonymous identifier it generates for your installation. We do not give it your name, your email, or any account of ours, because we do not have one.
- Your purchase and subscription status: which plan you bought, when, whether it renewed, was cancelled or was refunded.
- Basic technical information that comes with any internet request: your device model, your Android version, and your IP address.
We use this for one purpose only: to know whether you should have Pro features, on this device and on any other device where you use the same store account. It is not used for advertising, it is not sold, and it is not combined with anything else — with one exception: while analytics is on, Amplia also gives RevenueCat the anonymous Mixpanel identifier described above, so that subscription events (trial started, renewed, cancelled, expired) appear on that same anonymous analytics profile. Switching analytics off removes that identifier from RevenueCat.
Payment itself is handled by Google Play. Your card details are never seen by Amplia or by RevenueCat.
RevenueCat's own privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
If you never open the subscription screen, Amplia never contacts RevenueCat at all.
ANALYTICS AND DATA COLLECTION
To continuously improve the Amplia app, optimize performance, and provide you with a better audio experience, we use third-party analytics tools (e.g., Mixpanel, Google Analytics, RevenueCat). Through these tools, we collect only anonymous statistical data regarding how the app is used.
The data we collect includes:
- Device and Technical Information: your device's operating system version (Android OS), app version, device locale (language/region), device manufacturer and model (for example "samsung SM-S721B" — never the name you gave your phone), and whether you use the free or Pro version.
- In-App Activity (anonymous): session durations, selected equalizer (EQ) settings and audio output profiles, volume enhancement levels (dB changes), preset usage, and general interactions with app features.
- Subscription and Purchase Events: frequency of premium feature views, subscription plan selections, and purchase statuses. All payment transactions are securely processed through Google Play; we do not collect or store your credit card or financial information.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: AUDIO PRIVACY
While Amplia is an audio processing application, your voice, microphone inputs, and the media content you listen to on your device (music, videos, etc.) are never recorded, listened to, or transmitted to our servers. The data collected consists solely of performance and usage metrics, such as which buttons are pressed and what numerical settings (e.g., +6 dB) are applied.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO
- No advertising, and no advertising identifier is read.
- No advertising analytics, no sale or sharing of your data, and no tracking across other apps. Analytics exists only to improve the app, and switching it off in Settings ends it.
- No crash-reporting SDK. Google Play may show us anonymous crash reports from users who opted in to share them with Google; that is Google's system, not ours.
- No microphone access. Amplia shows an estimated listening level rather than a measured one precisely so that it never has to ask for a microphone permission.
- No cloud backup. Android's automatic backup is switched off for this app, so your settings are not copied to Google Drive. On Android 12 and newer, a direct phone-to-phone transfer when you change devices is allowed, because that data never leaves your hands.
PERMISSIONS AND WHY
- Modify audio settings — to apply the boost and equalizer. This is the app.
- Foreground service (media playback) — to keep the boost running while you listen in another app.
- Notifications — for the boost notification you can control the app from, and for one reminder before a free trial charges you.
- Read audio files — only for the built-in player, and only the files you choose to play.
- Notification access — optional, and off until you enable it in Android settings. It is the only way Android lets an app see and control another app's media session, and Amplia uses it solely to list what is playing and offer play, pause, skip and seek on the boost screen. No notification content is read, stored or sent; the listener component contains no code that receives notifications.
- Internet — used by the subscription check and, unless you switch analytics off, Firebase Analytics and EU-region Mixpanel.
CHILDREN
Amplia is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.
YOUR CHOICES AND YOUR DATA
- Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on your device.
- You can ask us to delete the purchase record associated with your installation by writing to support@octo8.app. We will forward the request to RevenueCat and confirm when it is done. Note that deleting it also removes the record that you are a subscriber, so your Pro access on that installation ends.
- Google Play keeps its own record of your purchases, which we cannot delete. See Google's privacy policy for that.
CHANGES
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the change is described in the app's release notes. We will not start collecting something new without saying so here first.
